The Program

Now in its 9th year at Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym, the Stone Monkeys program is proud to continue its delivery of quality rock climbing instruction to Sydney’s youth. Providing a fantastic introduction to indoor rock climbing, students learn all the fundamental climbing techniques and skills necessary to help fast track their climbing development.
Each session is designed to incorporate technique development, practical application of skills along with climbing specific games and activities; all aimed at helping release the ape within every Stone Monkeys student.

Gradings and Assessment

Student’s skills and improvements are also tested at the end of each term through the grading and merit program. This program utilises the gyms grading standard representing the climbs difficulty level in conjunction with skills acquisition and physical conditioning components to keep students motivated and improving in their climbing and fitness levels.

The Venue

Stone Monkeys students train from one of Australia’s largest and premier climbing facilities, Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym. Home of the 2008 World Youth Championships, SICG’s walls offer the biggest and best variety of climbing in the country.
New climbs and challenges are set weekly by a dedicated and talented crew of route setters, jointly headed by Australia’s only qualified International World Cup route setter.

Instructors

Stone Monkeys instructors are all passionate climbers dedicated to passing on their skills to your kids. All have passed working with children screening checks and operate to the highest level of safety codes.
Headed by a qualified school teacher and climbing instructor of 13 years experience, your child will learn the art of rock climbing in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Stone Monkeys groups

For new climbers, the program operates within 3 age specific groups, aiming to ensure that students not only climb with others of a similar ability but that they also have a great time with their new friends.

For existing students aged 10 – 18 years there is the opportunity to join the Stone Monkeys Training Troop. This operates on Saturday mornings between 9.30a.m -11.30 am and is designed to enhance students bouldering and lead climbing skills while also improving students physical conditioning through a tailored training program.

Stone Monkeys is also active in its support of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. The Award which operates in 100 countries worldwide is a self –development program for young people 14 years and older. Further information can be provided on request.

Testimonial

“I have two primary school boys that started indoor rock climbing with the Stone Monkeys program two years ago.

They love it so much they now climb with the Monkeys twice a week and bring 4 friends along too.

All of the kids get huge benefits from rock climbing –  their physical strength, balance and flexibility continues to amaze me and their problem solving skills are developed as they work out how to approach a climb and also in the games and activities the instructors give them.

Andrew and his team should be congratulated for creating an atmosphere where kids can learn valuable skills while they strive for personal goals (and have a lot fun at the same time).

Stone Monkeys gives my kids a real sense of achievement, it’s obvious they really enjoy it. We try to never miss a week!
